Pupil Premium Funding
This is a term that you may have heard referred to in the press, as well as through school. It is not simply about providing free school meals, but giving schools extra money to ensure that all pupils achieve the best that they can. Mr Kaufman has already put information on the website about what we do with this money, which can be spent on extra staff, resources or activities. At around £1300 per pupil and with 45% of Queens Road students eligible, this is a considerable amount of money, which is used to enhance what we offer as a school. If your child is eligible and you have not claimed the pupil premium, then please consider contacting the school office. Ofsted inspectors will check with staff carefully to ensure that these students are making the same progress as others and the governors regularly discuss this work and its impact, as well as the progress of other groups, such as pupils with Special Educational Needs or English as an Additional Language.
Our governing body – Meet some of the team:
Mr Paul Howarth – Chair of Governors – “I have been involved in education for over 20 years. Recently I have been working in secondary education focusing upon student leadership and English as an additional language. I have been involved in Queens Road governors for over 8 years. This has allowed me to see the school grow and see the exciting developments over recent years. As someone who designs Educational Games I am particularly interested in creative learning for the pupils. In my spare time I am a keen cyclist and have a love of reading. As a governor it is helpful to be able to discuss the work of the staff in school and support them in ensuring that the school is a happy and engaging place to learn.”
Mr Michael Mollart – “Hi I am Michael Mollart, I am a governor at Queens Road Academy, I have been involved with the school for a few years. My interests started with listening to the children read and helping the ones that were struggling. I am also interested in the wider opportunities for the children such as the gardening and here they do not need encouragement to work. Most recently I have been supporting parents and families improve attendance and I am pleased to hear of recent successes in this. Although I am retired, I still take an interest in all aspects of the school and will continue for as long as I am able.”
Mrs Geri Johnson – “Hello I am Geri Johnson (SENCO and Early Years at Little Jo’s Nursery). I am a passionate football supporter, holding a season ticket for Barnsley FC. This has led my interest in developing the schools sport and healthy lifestyles. My other passion is my family , My sons attend the school. I am a key link between the governing body and the PTFA. I enjoy travelling, my favourite places are Brazil where I went to the 2014 world cup, Kenya and Thailand. I appreciate the diversity of school life and the inclusive approach of the school. I have completed a degree in sports science, business management and marketing+Law. After working with Barnsley FC I went back to study child care – this is the best job in the world. Being part of the school governing body is another way I can support and help develop the children’s future at Queens Road Academy.”
